THE GREAT WAR
The Great War is the only war that involved every kingdom, and it changed the face of Affer forever. While all species suffered, the humans came out the worst. Despite being the strongest kingdom on Affer, the humans didn’t stand a chance, as they were outnumbered by the five other species allying against them.
The last battle of the three-year-long war took place in Admont, and when the capital fell, so did humanity. Hundreds of thousands had died, but those who survived were doomed to endure a worse fate. Being shackled in chains, the remaining humans were divided among the five species and forced into enslavement.
After that day, the planet never went to war ever again, until 473 years later, and that is where the story of Conquest begins.
PROLOGUE
Four hundred seventy-three years ago, the planet Affer changed forever. Five species: angels, demons, dammed, hybrids, and elves allied against the humans in a battle that was known as the Great War. City after city fell, until only the capital, Admont, was left standing. Despite humanity’s power, they were hopelessly outnumbered, and in a single night, Admont was conquered. A three-year war came to an end as the humans were defeated. Hundreds of thousands had been killed, but the ones who survived suffered a worse fate, as they were enslaved.
For years, the five species treated the humans fairly. But as time passed, they became lazy and demanded more. As the humans struggled to keep up, the species began to abuse their power. It became common for slaves to be beaten, sometimes to the point of death, so most of the kingdoms set laws in place to ensure they would have servants for centuries to come. The only ones that didn’t were the angels. Humans were treated the worst there, and death was viewed as a gift. Despite that, the angels became the strongest species on Affer. Next were the demons, who were substantially weaker but still feared by every kingdom below them. The dammed were in the middle. They were neither powerful nor weak and were the most peaceful of the five. Fourth were the hybrids, a mighty group that had fallen after the Great War but was now regaining its power. Lastly were the elves, who were the weakest and looked down upon by the other four.
The years passed, turning into decades and centuries, without any change. Eventually, the humans accepted their fate as slaves…all except one. Fletcher Rush, a man born a slave, would become the leader of the most significant uprising the world had ever seen. It didn’t matter how far he had to go or if it cost him his soul. Fletcher had dedicated his life to freeing his kind. For eleven years, he trained with the sole purpose of escaping enslavement and bringing Affer to its knees, until the day arrived for him to begin his conquest.
