HYBRIDS

Hybrids are a mix of angels, demons, and elves. Before the Great War, they were also comprised of humans, but they were all executed once the war started, and it was outlawed for other species to breed with humans since they were reduced to slaves. A considerable number of hybrids are a mix of all three species, but there are still plenty that are only two, especially those in power. The most coveted blend is angel/demon. Having the strength of both species, the size, bone density, and exoskeleton of demons, with the healing and intelligence of angels, makes for a mighty warrior. As a result, the hybrids were once the second-strongest species on Affer, but once their king, Zyro Shade, was killed in the Great War, the kingdom rapidly declined. Zyro’s right-hand forcibly took the throne, kicking the royal Shade family to the streets. With their second-largest city, Cartin, still belonging to the elves,  and war being nonexistent, which was how they acquired a bulk of their money, the hybrid kingdom plummeted. It took less than half a century for the hybrids to go from second-strongest to second-weakest.

Their appearance varies depending on the mix.

Demon breeds tend to have gray skin, ranging from light to dark, horns, and an exoskeleton. Unlike the demons, whose horns are always black and very rarely white, the hybrids’ horns range in color. Most have black horns, but those with angel blood can have golden horns, and those with elven blood may have red horns.

Angel mixes are only a fraction of true angels. While strong, smart, and gifted with incredible healing, it isn’t anywhere near what the pureblooded angels have. However, one advantage the hybrids have is their sight. While angels are fully blind and rely on echolocation, angel hybrids can see.

Elven hybrids are far superior to pureblooded elves, no matter if they are part demon or elf. Their smaller size, combined with the larger angels or demons, makes them agile but strong.

SYMBOL

THE KINGDOM

The Arrgon desert is a place many wish to avoid, but to the hybrids, it is only known as home. The scalding temperatures, deadly creatures, and harsh winds that plague the land don’t faze them. Among the mostly barren landscapes are the hybrids grand cities.
Besides the hybrids cities, the only other structure in the Arrgon Desert is Radwell Pit, the large knightnium mine to the northwest of Grifol. This mine is the largest open mine in Affer, and produces a little less than a quarter of what the demon kingdom mines as a whole. The pit has a four-thousand-foot diameter and is eighteen hundred feet deep.

THE CAPITAL

Arkanon

Arkanon consists of six levels and is built into the side of a mountain. There are three gates leading in and out of the city. Two of the gates are strictly used by the military, while the one in the middle is used by everyone else.

The bottom level is where the coliseum, both military posts, and two wards are. The three floors above it are all purely residential, with a few shops scattered about. While a few hybrids live on the fifth floor, they are of very high ranks, such as the head commander of the kingdom’s army. What takes up most of the fifth floor is the primary forge for the city, the main training center, the chief armory, and the kingdom’s largest bank.

The sixth floor is predominantly dedicated to the castle. The building is so large that it merges into the mountain, with many halls and rooms fully encased by the mountain itself. On the first floor of the castle, resides the throne room, which is the hybrid’s crowning achievement. The floor is made from a single purple agate geode, and the walls are the same red sandstone as the mountains, with silver inlays. Statues of prior kings and queens decorate the room, and a silver throne sits at the back. Yet the true beauty of the room lies in its ceiling. Adorning the ceiling is a mural of Arkanon with the large mountains sitting behind it, and their god, Sylos, shining down from above. On the two lower levels are bedrooms, a massive kitchen, a dining room, a small but elite armory, and a few other lesser important rooms. On the very bottom floor, is where the darker rooms dwell, both in a literal and metaphorical sense. The three rooms on the bottom floor are: the worst prison in the kingdom, two torture chambers, and Vaxel’s personal training room.
