ZYFER

(Zy-fer)

Zyfers are the apex predator of Yoxtoll Forest. Long ago, there were hundreds of them roaming the forest, but due to their massive size and the large amount of food they required to survive, they began to die out over time. Now, only one remains. This Zyfer, who was born smaller than her kin, has grown larger than some males used to. Being the only one of her kind makes it easy to hunt, but it also means it’s only a matter of time before the species goes extinct.

Zyfers can live for over a thousand years, yet none have died of old age, so their true lifespan is unknown. While the females had white fur and the males had black fur, both had the same small navy blue hexagon patches covering their bodies. These hexagons are very thick and cover eighty percent of their bodies, providing an extra layer of protection on top of their thick skin and dense muscles. They have wide sharp teeth, six large canines on the top of their mouth, and four smaller ones on the bottom. In order to eat larger prey, a zyfer’s jaw can unhinge. A row of spikes runs down their head, splitting into two rows, with a blue line of fur running in between, stopping at their tail. This spot on top of the back is their only weakness, aside from the eyes, because the skin is slightly thinner and no hexagon patches grow in that area.
